The prefecture of Kavala is situated in the centre of East Macedonia. It is only 100 km away from Thessaloniki and within a stone's throw from Thrace; it is marked out by two rivers, Strymonas and Nestos.

The scenery varies pleasantly from beaches to vast plain and woodlands interspersed with quaint small restaurants, cafeterias and fully-equipped hotels.
